Travel Tips

While you are planning your trip to Mexico, to study and learn spanish at Kukulcan, please check the following:

• Buy your airplane ticket as soon as you can. Don’t forget that you are flying to Mexico City and not to Cuernavaca.

• Depending on your nationality, you may need a visa or other documentation to travel to Mexico. Check with your travel agent or airline to find out what is required for you. Citizens of the U.S., Canada, or European community will need a passport but they do not need a visa to enter Mexico. All they need is a ´tourist card´, which is given out on the airplane before arrival in Mexico.

• All international travelers should have a valid passport. Check the expiration date to be sure it is valid for at least six months after your arrival in Mexico. Don´t wait until the last minute to get your passport. Remember that after 9/11 all US citizens, residents, or international passengers departing or connecting through the US need to hold a valid passport. If you are a US citizen it may take over 12 weeks to get your passport, so make sure you plan in advance.

• Minors may need a notarized letter from a parent or legal guardian approving the trip. Check with your airline to see what they recommend if you are thinking of sending your child to Mexico alone or with a group.

• Before you leave home, check with your health insurance company to be sure it covers your medical costs if you become ill or are injured while abroad. If additional coverage is necessary we recommend you purchase it before coming to Mexico, as insurance purchased in Mexico can be very expensive for foreigners.

• You can exchange foreign currency at Mexico City´s airport 24 hours a day, or at any bank in Cuernavaca between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. ATM machines are also available at the airport and throughout Cuernavaca, providing service 24 hours a day. They charge a small fee for the service. Most major credit cards are widely accepted in Mexican stores, restaurants and hotels.

• Casual clothing is recommended for classes and a light jacket for the evenings. If you are coming on an spanish internship program or for spanish professional programs, please consider bringing ´business casual´ clothes.

• We offer free wireless internet access at Kukulcan so bring a laptop from home if you want to send e-mails.

• Also bring a Spanish-English dictionary and any other Spanish grammar reference books (like 501 Spanish Verbs) that you think you might want to use in your spanish language classes.
