Accommodations

Since the spanish language learning cannot be isolated from the country where it is spoken, we strongly recommended that students stay with host families so they can practice Spanish language and get a first-hand look at Mexican family life. Many of our academic partners make home-stays mandatory for their students, since they are part of the immersion experience. Home -stays provide students with pleasant rooms (single or double occupancy), three meals per day, and daily transportation to and from Kukulcan (if it is more than a 10-minute walk from the house to school). Kukulcan carefully selects families who will make students feel at home and provide them with a safe, healthy environment. With advance notice, we can also accommodate families with young children in home-stay accommodations. Many of our host families have worked with us for years and have substantial experience with international visitors.

For those who do not want home-stays, Kukulcán offers modestly priced accommodations for individuals, families, or groups in our nearby suites. The suites have single, double, or triple occupancy, each with a private bath. Meals can be arranged through Kukulcan´s cafeteria for student groups who stay in the suites together. Please contact us for prices if you are interested in staying in the suites.

Travel-Study participants, life-long learners, and other participating in a non-academic programs of study at Kukulcan may want to stay in a hotel or apartment in the city. We do not make these arrangements directly, but we can provide you with a list of hotels and put you in contact with real estate agents who rent apartments. Let us know if you are interested in this option.

Please note: Our Academic Programs (for College Students, High School Students, and Heritage Speakers) include double occupancy home-stay accomodations as part of the program cost. If you want a single room you will need to pay an additional $50 USD per week. If you prefer to stay in the nearby "Suites" in a hotel, or a rented apartment, prices will be adjusted accordingly.

Home stay
For a total Spanish immersion experience we recommend first-hand exposure to Mexican culture via our host families. This living arrangement will immerse you in the Mexican traditions and the day to day life of a Mexican family. All host families are carefully selected to ensure adequate and pleasant accommodations. In addition to the sleeping arrangements the family provides three meals per day plus daily transportation to and from school (if the house is not within a 10-minute walking distance from school). You will speak Spanish all day long out of necessity and out of interest in the family life you will see unfolding around you.

Suites: If you are looking for an inviting place to stay that is just a quick walk from your classroom this option may be the ideal accommodation for you. The suites offer individual and double accommodations. Hotel service is provided with bed linens and towels changed twice per week. Meals are not included but you can fix them yourself in our kitchen, or purchase them at restaurants near). Some of them are very economical and offer a "comida corrida" (daily special), which means you have three courses (soup, main meal, and dessert) for about $4 USD.

Hotels and Rentals
Cuernavaca has many excellent hotels in a variety of price ranges. If you want, we will give you information about how to make your reservation.
Apartment and house rentals are also available but we do not handle rentals directly. We put you in contact with a real state agent in Cuernavaca so you can make arrangements with him/her.
