Internships in Mexico And Spanish Immersion ProgramsThese innovative Spanish 'hands on' language programs are available for students and professionals with specific career goals. Internships and service learning spanish opportunities provide an opportunity to integrate the student´s Spanish language skills with experiential learning in Mexico´s industrial, commercial, educational, agricultural, media, or governmental sectors. If you want credit for an internship or a service learning program, you must work through your home university to determine the number of hours and credits you can receive, and deterine if there is a minimum stay required. As in regular classes, we require 90% attendance to make sure you get the most out of your immersion experience. Short-term and long-term internships and service learning opportunities are customized to the student´s career goals. The length can vary from five weeks to a full academic year. Participants may work in a part-time (four hours per day) or a full-time (eight hours per day) capacity. Internships and service learning opportunities have no salaries attached, and are considered ´educational experiences´ rather than ´employment´. Accommodations and meals are arranged according to the desire of the participants. Students considering an internship in Mexico must have: 1. High intermediate Spanish language proficiency. If the participant has a lower level of Spanish language proficiency upon arrival in Mexico, Spanish language training is available at Kukulcan to bring you up to speed. We also offer special spanish classes to help you learn how to do business in Mexico. 2. A GPA of 2.5 or higher, or two years experience working in the field. 3. Proof of health insurance for the length of stay in Mexico. Students should complete the application process at least 2 months prior to the desired internship, student teaching, or service learning program. Progess will be monitored and evaluated by Kukulcan´s Internship Committee (KIC) which will make periodic visits to the work sites to observe students as they perform their assigned tasks. The KIC also makes recommendations to intern sponsors about quality control and enhancement of the work experience. Kukulcan provides an orientation program for interns, and oversees the student´s completion of the midterm and final reports and the final evaluation of the project. Kukulcan has articulation agreements through the Mexican Ministry of Education with private schools in the area, such as ´Colegio Cuernavaca´. This allows us to arrange student teaching practicum for education majors. The practicum is available to English, Spanish, or French language teaching assistants. The hours worked in Mexican schools may fulfill graduation requirements for student teachers. Contact your home university for more information. We can send you our program fees via email if you contact us and let us know the required length of stay.
