Our students opinion: My trip to Mexico
"I am in Mexico and I am loving it down here! The people are wonderful and everyone at Kukulcan is very nice.
Also, my predictions were correct: I truly had nothing to fear about the influenza, and the media truly blew the whole situation out of proportion. I understand the liability of bringing students to a country where they might get infected or their safety is at risk... but, is this not what we would face if we were to go to any place in the world?!
Seasonal influenza kills 250,000 to 500,000 people, worldwide, every year. Every 2-3 years, influenza strengthens itself and forms new strands capable of attaching to hosts (humans/animals/bacteria/etc.) There is nothing we can do to really stop it's evolution to this world. It's sad, but the way to help prevent infection is what we were taught to do ALL the time when we were younger: wash our hands often; cover our mouths when we sneeze (preferably in our elbows) and to stay home if we are feeling sick. I am confident in staying here this month and really appreciate Leti and everyone else here at Kukulcan for instilling courage in myself and the other students that are here studying with me; my trust in them was justified upon arrival to this beautiful country and city: THERE IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT :)
I am grateful that I chose to go independently to Cuernavaca. Without these credits this summer, I might not graduate until May 2010, instead of December 2009.
Please forward this email to whom ever needs witness to what's REALLY going on, and preferably, to whom ever made the decision to cancel the trips to Cuernavaca".
God bless,
Michael Motl – TX State

Our students opinion: "The security in Mexico"
"When I was getting ready to come to Mexico I didn´t know what to think and I didn´t know what to expect. I was very excited about my trip but, also had reservations about my safety everyone told me that because have blonde hair, fair skin, blue eyes, I would need to be extra careful. when arrived in Mexico, I was wondering what my family, the neighborhood and the school would be like. I arrived in Cuernavaca I could not have been more pleased. It is nowhere near the scary dangerous place people say, but rather a small quiet town with one of the most friendly atmospheres."
